Doddinghurst

Our client owned a sizeable plot of land with an existing home but wanted to enlarge this with the addition of a new enclosed swimming pool. The brief included connecting this to the existing living space without losing the great light and views the living spaces benefited from.

Brief

Our clients wanted this new pool house to sit naturally with the land and compliment the house. The pool house also requires a private shower, changing space and a small gym. Seating and circulation around the pool is essential while still providing a connection to the outdoors.

Concept

For this client we sketched a series of design iterations to make sure we provided the right balance between integration and separation with the main house. Our final design makes the use of curtain walls and a large skylight so the space is bathed in natural light. The connection of the walkway to the pool with the main house enhanced the spaces it integrated with. The conservatory and WC had an upgrade which made the new build slot nicely into place.

Challenges

The size and coordination of the mechanical and electrical (M&E) kit was a challenge on this particular project. We maximised the size of this pool-house extension to the limit of the planning allowance, and included designated M&E spaces. It is essential to plan for equipment ahead of time so there is a coordination of pipework, electrics, pumps etc. between Method Studio as designers and all relevant specialists.

VR

See below for the VR experience we created for our clients! This helps our clients really visualise what their new home looks like, it also helps our clients make further decisions with kitchen design and overall finishes. See more about our VR and design process in our Stage 1 guide.
